The BUFFALO solution

The Problem
Setting up a secure wireless network can be too complicated. Most computer users are aware of the advantages of using wireless at home and at the office. Furthermore, most are aware that wireless networks are especially vulnerable to hackers and therefore, special security measures must be implemented. However, setting up these secure connections often involves several tedious steps, requiring a certain level of expertise to complete.

Buffalo Solution

Buffalo ’s AirStation OneTouch Secure System (AOSS™). With AOSS, users can set up secure wireless connections. AOSS automatically detects and configures other AOSS enabled wireless devices and clients and seamlessly creates secure connections. As you add additional devices, security is negotiated at the highest level possible for all devices on the network.

AOSS Connections

The above diagram shows two different types of client devices connecting to the wireless network via AOSS.

Notebook Adapter to Router:
• Press AOSS button (1) on the router to initiate the AOSS session.
• Click the AOSS button (2) in the Buffalo Client Manager Software.
• DONE – A secure connection is automatically established between the Router and Notebook.

Ethernet Converter to Router:
• Press AOSS button (1) on the router to initiate the AOSS session.
• Press the Reset button on the Ethernet Converter (3).
DONE – A secure connection is automatically established between the Router and the Ethernet Converter.

How AOSS™ Handles Security

When two or more AOSS clients attach to the AOSS network, the client and router automatically negotiate the highest level of security that the clients and router can support. In the above example, one of the AOSS clients supports both WEP and WPA level encryption(TKIP and AES), while the other supports only WEP. AOSS automatically adjusts the security to a level that both clients
